This entry covers several ARISE empowerment schemes that reached people in Onna Local Government Area. Under the ARISE Traders Grant, 168 traders in Onna received grants worth N78,100,000 in total. Another 52 people received working equipment under the ARISE Equipment Support Scheme.
Two business owners in Onna each received an MSME grant of N5,000,000. Two people received mini buses and one person received a car.
The schemes are funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda. In February 2025 the Governor announced a N5.1 billion empowerment package. It set aside N2 billion for validated traders across the 31 LGAs, N2 billion for farmers and N800 million for equipment support to micro, small and medium businesses. Applicants registered on the State's ARISE grants portal, and beneficiaries were to be chosen digitally.
Onna is part of the Eket Federal Constituency. At the ARISE Town Square meeting for the constituency, held at the Cenotaph by Eket Township Stadium on 3 August 2025, the Governor presented grants, equipment and vehicles to 1,076 people from Eket, Esit Eket, Onna and Ibeno. He said the scheme was open to qualified citizens registered on the ARISE portal and was not meant to favour any political party.
Counting the ARISE Farmers Grant, 283 people in Onna received a total of N122,100,000 in direct cash grants. That figure does not include the value of the equipment and vehicles. The support is meant to help small traders and business owners restock, grow and create jobs at the grassroots.
The programmes help Onna people improve their livelihoods and become more productive.
The grants, equipment and vehicles give people resources to strengthen their businesses, create income and stimulate the local economy.
