About the programme

The ARISE empowerment grants are a support programme for farmers, traders and small business owners in Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, which covers Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara Local Government Areas. The programme gives grants and equipment support, and some vehicles were also given to individuals.

The programme is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda. The grants for this constituency were handed out at a Town Square Meeting held at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium on 17 April 2025, one of a series of such meetings held across the state.

At the meeting, 655 people, including farmers and small scale business owners, received business support grants worth N260 million, along with equipment support. The support is meant to help them buy stock, tools and farm inputs and to grow their businesses.

The Town Square Meeting also gave the Governor a chance to brief the people on government projects in the area and to collect their ideas and needs for future planning. Governor Eno described the empowerment as the fulfilment of a campaign promise.

The grants are expected to raise household income, create jobs in small businesses and farms, and strengthen local trade in Ikot Ekpene and its neighbouring local government areas.
