About the programme
The Entrepreneurial Development and Business Support programme is a statewide scheme of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno. It gives artisans, traders, farmers and small business owners the tools, vehicles and cash grants they need to start or grow their trade. Mini buses, equipment and cheques have been handed out across the state.
The programme is run through the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre (Ibom LED). Beneficiaries are selected through the ARISE Youth Employment portal. It is paid for by the state government and covers several schemes: the ARISE Entrepreneurial Equipment Support Scheme, the ARISE Traders Grant, the ARISE Farmers Grant and the ARISE N5 million MSME Grant.
In March 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium, Governor Eno presented over 10,000 sets of equipment to 2,000 entrepreneurs. The items covered tailoring, barbing, shoemaking, welding, laundry, hairdressing, car wash, make-up, baking, palm and cassava milling, vulcanising and tiling. 77 mini buses and 31 saloon cars were also presented.
The Governor has continued the scheme at town square meetings in each federal constituency. On 4 June 2025 in Ikot Abasi, 540 people from Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo received N250 million in grants, three cars and six mini buses. In August 2025 at the Ibom Hall grounds in Uyo, 1,187 people from the Uyo Federal Constituency received N492.7 million in farm, trade and business grants.
The programme is meant to help people earn a steady income, create jobs in local trades and reduce poverty. It is part of the ARISE Agenda's push to grow small businesses and the wider economy of the state.
